Rosacea 101: Do's and Don'ts for a Healthier, Calmer Skin

Did you know that April is  Rosacea Awareness Month? Research indicates that over 160 million people globally suffer from this chronic skin disorder, yet many remain unaware of their condition. Rosacea is a common yet often misunderstood skin condition that is characterized by persistent redness, flushing, and sometimes acne-like breakouts. Because there are no two equal cases, it can be both frustrating and challenging to manage and to identify. While there is currently no cure for rosacea, it can often be controlled through thoughtful lifestyle changes, a tailored skincare routine, and, in some cases, professional treatments.

At Revoderm, we see patients with rosacea every day and we wanted to dedicate this time to emphasize and educate people with the warning signs of this condition and let them know there is hope! If you think you or someone you love might have rosacea, feel free to reach out to us for a complimentary home care consultation, or reach out to Derm.ca

We talked to Revoderm’s founder, Ildiko Juhasz, who after decades of seeing patients with rosacea at the clinic, shared some insights and key tips she’s learned over her extensive career. Keep reading for the best tips and everyday changes you can make to live better with rosacea.

Do’s for Managing Rosacea

- Use a gentle cleanser to maintain the skin's barrier while reducing redness and inflammation.

- Incorporate hydrating moisturizers, such as HA + Prebiotics Serum, to combat dehydration.

- Always apply a mineral sunscreen with zinc to protect against sun exposure, a common trigger for rosacea flare-ups.

- Yes, you can use makeup but I’d recommend mineral based makeup such as Jane Iredale, mineral makeup with natural ingredients developed by a dermatologist that are super gentle on the skin.

- Be mindful of your skin's needs; if breakouts occur, focus on using only serums and sunscreen without heavy moisturizers.

- Stay hydrated and avoid known triggers such as emotional stress and hot weather.

Don’ts for Rosacea Care

- Avoid using soap, as it can damage the skin barrier and worsen symptoms.

- Steer clear of products with fragrances, astringents, or harsh ingredients, as these can irritate the skin and exacerbate redness.

- Do not use heavy, greasy moisturizers, which can lead to breakouts and irritation.

- Avoid chemical sunscreens that can cause skin irritation.

- Limit spicy foods, hot dishes, and alcohol, as these can trigger rosacea symptoms.

By following these expert tips, you can take more control of your rosacea and improve your skin health and your everyday life. And remember, when it comes to your skin’s health, small changes make a big impact

Our Story

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve had stubborn cystic, hormonal acne for years. Can Revoderm help with that?

Absolutely! Acne is one of the top concerns our customers have online or in our clinic. Our specialists and dermatologist will help with a customized online consult and treatment plan.

Can you help with other medical skin conditions, like eczema and psoriasis?

Our private consults can help with acne, anti-aging, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, rosacea, and hair loss. If you suspect you have another issue, contact your local dermatologist.

Do I have to part with all of my existing skincare products?

We get it–you invested your time and money on your current skincare routine. However, in order for us to fulfill our promise to you and help you achieve your best skin possible, you must follow our recommendations, which includes products, routine, and prescriptions. We want to make sure everything you’re putting on your skin is working for, and not against, you.

If I get a topical prescription from the dermatologist, can I still use Revoderm skincare products?

Definitely! Revoderm formulas are all medical-grade and developed by a dermatologist, which means they work in harmony with Rx products. (You can’t say the same for random OTC/department store skincare.)
